The M-Taiwan Applications Promotion Program encourages domestic corporations to participate in international standardization organizations in order to help define international standards.
The WiMAX Forum has more than 500 members, of which 40 are based in Taiwan including 15 principal members and one board member.
Cooperation between the WiMAX Forum and Taiwan:
- March 2007: The WiMAX Forum publishes its M-Taiwan Whitepaper, elevating Taiwan’s international profile.
- May 2007: The WiMAX Forum Taiwan Office is established.
- June 2007: Bureau Veritas ADT Corporation is selected as the first fixed and mobile WiMAX certified laboratory in the world.
- December 2007: Compliance Certification Services Inc. (CCS) and Telecom Technology Center (TTC) are selected as WiMAX-designated laboratories.
- June 2007: The WiMAX Forum announces that it will base its first applications lab, M-Taiwan WiMAX Applications Lab (MTWAL), in Taiwan, giving Taiwan an upper hand in the development of WiMAX applications.
- October 2007: The WiMAX Forum Member Conference is held in Taiwan.
- June 2008: The WiMAX Forum Operator Summit takes place in Taiwan.
- February 2009: The Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI) joins the WiMAX Forum Board of Directors.
- October 2009: The WiMAX Forum Member Conference will be held in Taiwan again.
About WiMAX Forum WiMAX Forum was established in June 2001 to promote WiMAX technology and certify products. Its most important missions include testing mobile WiMAX tests, certifying testing equipment, and formulating interoperability specifications.
WiMAX Forum has set up a Spectrum and Regulatory Database. In the future, the WiMAX Forum will form a WiMAX network database for members’ reference.
WiMAX Forum is based in Beaverton Oregon, seven miles outside Portland. In addition to headquarters in the U.S., WiMAX Forum has six regional offices across the world to promote and deploy WiMAX technologies. Taiwan is the third regional office with the first two being in China and India. The regional office in Taiwan was established in April 2007, and the WiMAX summit was launched the following month and hosted by Mr. Ronald Resnick, President and Chairman of the WiMAX Forum. Afterward, the regional offices in Japan, Brazil, and Russia were established.
